Social technologies –mobile communication, cheap international phone calls, Internet connectivity, social media and virtual games, are becoming a standard aspect of the family experience. The affordable and widely accessible nature of information communication technologies (ICTs) transforms family networks into virtual ones with potentially significant consequences on how we understand relationships. In this workshop, we will explore the impact of emerging social technologies on couple and family relationships, how couples and families adopt technology mediated communication, and ICTs potential to facilitate systemic clinical work. We will share the initial findings of a cross-national survey directed to family clinicians and discuss with participants their perspectives on the emerging technologies and family connection.
